Family Day: The Bubble Lady at the Montclair Library

With just soap and water, the Bubble Lady creates giant bubble animals, wigs and much more at this FREE event at the Montclair branch of the Oakland Public Library.

Directions: From Hwy. 13, take the Thornhill exit, go one block east on Thornhill to Mountain Blvd. and turn right. The library is about a block down on the right at 1687 Mountain Blvd.

Note: Don’t forget to visit the terrific nearby Montclair Park after the show!

Family Night: Concert & Family Picnic, Orinda Community Park

Bring your entire family, a picnic dinner and blanket and enjoy a free Celtic Rock & Funk concert by Pladdohg.

Directions: Take Hwy. 24 to the Orinda exit and go north on Camino Pablo. Turn right onto Santa Maria Way and left onto Orinda Way. The park is on the right at 26 Orinda Way.

Note: The concert begins at 6:30, but parking fills up quickly, so try to arrive early.

Hike

Hike: Sea View Trail, Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley

This is a 5 mile, challenging loop.

Directions: From Hwy. 24, take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit just east of the Caldecott Tunnel. Go about 1 mile to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and turn right. Proceed to Lomas Cantadas Rd. and turn right, then immediately left. Park in the upper gravel overflow parking lot. Wear hiking boots and bring a picnic lunch. Note: After the hike, we’ll ride the Steam Trains.

Stroller Walk

Stroller Walk: Lake Chabot, San Leandro

We’ll walk for 60 minutes on this flat, paved trail.

Directions: From Hwy. 580 eastbound in San Leandro, take the 150th/Fairmont Dr. exit. Go through the first light at 150th Ave. and at the next light, turn left onto Fairmont Dr., which becomes Lake Chabot Rd. Continue 0.1 miles and turn left into the Lake Chabot Marina parking area. Parking is $5/car (exact change required) in the lot, or free on Lake Chabot Rd. Note: This walk will begin promptly at 6:30 to be completed before dark.

Stroller Walk

Stroller Walk: Montclair Hills, Oakland

This is a flat, paved trail above Montclair Village.

Directions: From Hwy. 13, take the Thornhill Dr. exit and go south on Moraga Ave. to the light at Medau Pl. and turn left. Go two blocks to the dead end. Park on the street (meters) or in the garage at the top of LaSalle Ave. (one block south). and meet at the Medau Pl. dead end. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at nearby Montclair Park. Note: This walk will be led by EBM Amanda Aguilera, who can be reached at 510-655-7587.

Hike/Stroller Walk

Hike/Stroller Walk: Tennessee Valley, Marin Headlands

We’ll hike on a beautiful, flat two mile trail down to the beach and return after having lunch and playing at the beach.

Directions: Take the Richmond San Rafael Bridge to Hwy. 101 south to the Stinson Beach exit which will lead you to Shoreline Highway (Hwy. 1). Less than 1/2 mile from 101 look for the Tennessee Valley Rd. turnoff on the left and follow it to the parking lot at the end of the road. Wear hiking boots and bring a picnic lunch, blanket and beach toys.

Notes: Strollers can be used on this trail; dogs are not allowed in Tennessee Valley.

Gymboree

Gymboree in El Cerrito Plaza

Enjoy 90 minutes of open play followed by songs and bubbles.

Directions: From Hwy. 80 eastbound, bear left on 80 at the 80/580 split and exit at Central Ave. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp, stay in the right lane and turn right onto Carlson. Follow Carlson into El Cerrito Plaza. Turn right at Longs and left at the end of the buildings. To the right of Trader Joe’s, take the elevator to the 2nd floor of the mezzanine offices and proceed around the right to Suite 704.

Admission: $4/child/EBM members; $6/child/non-members.
